Me in the backyard

ABOUT KALIE

I honestly see myself as a pretty simple and content person. My husband had to buy me my first Ipod and my first smart phone. He constantly tells me that he had to get me an Apple watch so that he could get a hold of me if he was dying. I am forever putting my phone down and walking away...darn women's pockets are too small!

I do not love to wake up early but I do love the peaceful calm that happens if I am up and going before anyone else. I am a mom of two so peace is a bit hard to come by. My family is the best (sorry, non-negotiable).

Education:

BS: Landscape Management at Brigham Young University Utah campus with a focus in Arboriculture and a Minor in Business.

ISA Certified Arborist since September of 2011.

MS: I have a Master's in being almost completely ordinary since the day I was born. I have not been a prodigy in anything, I needed a tutor when I was falling behind in reading sometime around middle school and have re-started learning piano at least 4 times...

Why a Blog...?

I decided to start this blog because I have been learning about having "Just a Bit of Grit". It has helped me in running and in the everyday hum drum of life. When I first heard about grit I wondered why my sister (who is not a "plant nerd" like yours truly) was talking to me about soil. She told me that she felt that I had Grit and that I needed to learn about it. The book she sent me was called Grit: The Power of Passion and Perserverance by Angela Duckworth. The Reader's Digest version is that grit is being able to consistently pursue long-term goals despite set backs. What I love is that Anyone can practice grit and it can be used for anything they want. Hopefully this blog can be a place we can all share how we use grit to do and be more than we thought possible!
